Should Blackpool Aspire Academy be inaccessible due to unforeseen circumstances, which have been communicated with parents and carers, students can access work via the Google Classrooms. This work aligns to the curriculum being delivered in school. Tasks should be completed via the Google Classroom and submitted/handed in to teachers for feedback. Students who are accessing work remotely have a number of resources available to them to help support their studies during this current period - please click here to read our Remote Teaching and Learning Policy regarding the remote education provision we provide in exceptional circumstances.

Paper copies of work may be available (please contact the main reception 01253 353155) and can be used in conjunction with the Golden Knowledge Organisers. Alongside completing the online tasks set, students can complete activities similar to those of prep.

It is suggested that, wherever possible, students follow their normal school timetable to ensure they complete a variety of tasks throughout the day.

A Parent's Guide to Cornell Notes

What are Cornell Notes?
Cornell Notes are a structured note-taking system designed to help students actively engage with and retain information more effectively. The page is divided into three sections:

Key Vocabulary and Cue Questions Column (Left): This narrow column is for keywords, questions, or prompts related to the main notes. These are added after the Notes.

Notes Section (Right): This larger section is where students take notes after reading. They should record key concepts, facts, and explanations. Students should do this from memory without copying

Summary Section (Bottom): This section is for a brief summary of the main ideas from the notes, written after reading and completing the Notes section and Key Vocabulary/Cue Questions column.

Why are Cornell Notes Important?

Active Engagement: The Cornell method encourages students to be active participants in the learning process. They are not just passively writing down information; they are thinking about it, organising it, and summarising it in their own words.

Improved Organisation: The structured format provides a clear and organised way to record and review information. This makes it easier to find key concepts and study for tests.

Enhanced Recall: By reviewing the Key Vocabulary/Cue Questions column and trying to answer the questions or recall the information in the notes section, students actively test their memory, which strengthens retention.

Effective Study Tool: Cornell Notes provide a built-in study guide. Students can cover the notes section and use the cue column to quiz themselves, or they can review the summary to quickly refresh their memory.

How Can You Help Your Child Use Cornell Notes?

Explain the Method: Make sure your child understands the purpose of each section and how to use them effectively.

Provide Support: Help them use their prep book and the guidance to complete their work.

Encourage Review: Encourage your child to review their notes regularly, especially shortly after lessons and before tests.
