2021 will see the first cohort of students from Blackpool Aspire Academy completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).
This is an excellent way to develop a range of leadership, service and personal skills that will support students to achieve in a range of disciplines.
It is a nationally recognised award that illustrates the school’s commitment to combine high quality extra-curricular provision with excellent academic attainment and achieve ‘success for all’.
The components of the award will equip students with relevant life skills that will also serve them well as they make their way toward Higher Education and employment.
The school offers at present the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award, with the aim to develop the programme further into Silver and then Gold award opportunities in the future.
The Bronze award is achieved by completing a personal programme of activities broken down into sections (see below). More details about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme can be found at: www.dofe.org or email: p.plancke@aspire.fcat.org.uk
- Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
- Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities or discover a new sport.
- Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
- Expedition: planning, training for and completion of a two day/one night expedition in the Lancashire area with a chosen group.
Year 11 DofE Bronze Expeditions:
The practice expedition should take place on the 11th and 12th June, 2022.
The qualifying expedition should take place on the 25th and 26th June, 2022, overnight stay.
Both will be held around Waddecar Scout camp, near Beacon Fell.
Students will need to try to complete the Voluntary, Physical and Skills sections before the expeditions take place, if at all possible.
Parentpay has been set up for the Year 11 students on the DofE list. If the £23 could be paid before the start of December, this would be greatly appreciated. The registration form already sent home will need to be returned as soon as possible.
If the registration fee is an issue, please do not hesitate to contact the school and arrangements will be made to support you.
If you would like more information on the programme or have any further queries, please contact Miss Plancke at p.plancke@aspire.fcat.org.uk or in B8 most days.
